Umendra Dutt is the Founder Member and Executive Director of Kheti Virasat Mission, Punjab, to lead a people’s movement for sustainable farming, food safety and seed sovereignty. Also, he is a member of National Task Force on Organic Farming, Government of India; Executive Council, National Institute of Plant Health Management, Hyderabad and Indian Council for Forestry Research & Education, Dehradoon. He organized several campaigns, workshops, public dialogues and meetings. He also undertook several small research studies to highlight the Agrarian, Ecological and Environmental health issues of the Punjab. Initiated the process of building Environment and Organic Farming movement in Punjab way back in 1996. Played instrumental role in bringing several eminent and credible people to the movement involving farmers, urban consumers, medical fraternity, environmental scientists, other activists and youth of Punjab, setting up real alternatives at grassroots in the form of ecological agriculture, clean rivers and water conservation is the result of the one decade of work put in by Kheti Virasat Mission so far. Hundreds of organic farmers have been supported through trainings and extension by the organization under the leadership of Umendra Dutt.
He is also a Social Worker, Writer, Columnist and Editor – Associated with a variety of non-profit, philanthropic and charitable organizations and socio-cultural and environmental movements in various capacities since last 32 years. He has also been honored with several awards
