Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) organised India Tourism Conclave on November 11, 2018 at Rock Garden, Chandigarh, to discuss the issues related to tourism in India and necessary steps to be taken to promote tourism. This conclave was inaugurated by Dr. Nirmal Kumar Singh (Hon’ble Speaker, J&K Legislative assembly), presided by Sh. Ram Bilas Sharma (Hon’ble Tourism Minister Govt. of Haryana).
The conclave deliberation themes included
Hospitality sector (Challenges and Opportunities): To discuss the challenges and opportunities of hospitality sector as this sector significantly contributes to foreign currency generation & has vast potential in job creation.
Building Connections: To share how India is improving the road, air and rail connectivity. The session discussed about helicopter taxis, seaplane UDAN Connectivity.
Health & Wellness Tourism: As per estimates, only 11 million people travel annually to seek care abroad which is only 1% of the estimated global tourist volume of 1 billion. Thus there is immense potential for coupling medical care tourism.
Adventure & sports tourism: Discussion was laid regarding the penetration of Khelo India and increase in Adventure Tourism, how India is developing the culture of sports and travel for watching and playing sports.
