Indian Banks, Indian Challenges & Indian Solution

Centre from Economic Policy Research, CEPR conducted a roundtable meet on “Indian Banks, Indian Challenges and Indian Solutions” on November 17th, 2018 at the Claridges, New Delhi. The event witnesses the presence of Dr, Rajiv Kumar ( Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog); Dr. Ashwani Mahajan (National Co-convenor, Swadeshi Jagaran Manch); Gopal Krishna Agarwal (National Spokesperson Economic Affairs, BJP Independent Director, Bank of Baroda); Sh. Rajan Dogra(Director, Vijaya Bank); Dr. Shamika Ravi (Director of Research-Brookings India Member of PM Economic Advisory Council) and other dignitaries.

In an event discussion was laid regarding challenges banks are facing with respect to NPAs and Basel III and the ways to overcome these challenges. The panelists also discussed about the Ownership in Banks, comparing the ownership of Indian Banks with the ownership of other developed countries. Also, which type of ownership is required for the efficient working of Indian Banks.

Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise, MSME is also a focal point in this meeting, its growth and availability of credit. Various suggestions was also laid by the panelists regarding the structure, regulatory role and role of government and private sectors.
